Fransisca Oteng-Mensah: The 23 year old who made history winning parliamentary seat
Third year Law student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Fransisca Oteng Mensah recently broke a startling record in the history of Ghana politics to be the youngest ever elected member of parliament.
The 23 year old who flawlessly beat her opponent Iddisah Adams by a 55 668 margin is a member of the of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and now represents the Kwabre East (Ashanti Region) in parliament.
In an earlier interview with Citi Fm last year, Fransisca talked about her message as a student being pivotal to her political career. The most stunning thing about her journey to everyone however might be fighting through to success in a society that had many reasons -gender, class- to suppress her.
Nonetheless, when the parliament resumes in 2017, she will assume office, not just as a young lady in parliament, but as the youngest person to ever achieve that feat in the West African nation.
