Africa Is Organizing Her First Festival Of Nude Photography In 2018
2018 is the year of no barriers, of shattering glass ceilings, doing away with the manacles and embracing art in its entirety, in its wholeness, accepting it as a thing capable of leading souls. A lucid example of these deductions will be the first ever Festival of Nude Photography that is set to hold in Cotonou, Benin in March 2018.
Like the name suggests, the Festival of Nude Photography is an event devoted to artistic nude photography by assembling photographers and artists with interest in the body as a theme annually.
Curated by, writer, slameur and cultural journalist Djamile Mama Gao who says he created the festival to ‘kind of shock people’ and subsequently lead to an appreciation of this kind of expressive art, it is one of the many ways the continent is proving she cannot be stopped in this new year.
Mama Gao further explains how nudity is ingrained in the African culture and how the festival is going to reclaim this lost medium of expression. Photographers can submit their work to be exhibited for free and according to Arterial Network the selection will be realized under the supervision of a guest artist and will focus on the relevance of the projects, the aesthetic or technical prowess, the subtlety in the treatment of the subjects, the artistic quality, and the originality. The contest is opened to African and Africa-based artists, regardless of their status, age and nationality. The candidates will propose a single project to exhibit.
Applications must be submitted at the following email address: email@example.com. View full submission guidelines here
We are personally excited about the festival and cannot wait to bring you more details as March approaches!
